Soon You Can Add A Porsche Stop Watch To Your Classic Porsche
[ad_1]
A signature design cue of Porsches for at least a decade has been the dash-mounted stop watch that accompanies the Sport Chrono packages. While those packages consisted of more than just the little watch, that watch was both fun and became a clear indicator that said Porsche had some more serious sporting intentions. The package has only been offered since the 997-generation of 911, so there are many Porsches without a little stop watch. But Porsche seems to have a solution.

Stop Watches For Everyone
In a German patent office filing spotted by CarMoses, Porsche describes a stop watch that could be fitted to a car that doesn’t have one. It also notably doesn’t specify only old Porsches, which suggests that this aftermarket watch could be fitted to just about anything. The watch seems fairly simple, combining both a digital and analog stop watch. Porsche notes that this gives both vintage looks and easy legibility, plus some redundancy and the ability to ensure both are working properly. The most complicated aspect of the watch seems to be the described ability to connect the watch to GPS equipment. This could potentially allow for other functionality such as recording lap times and maybe even sector times.

The filing also references a secure but quickly detachable mounting solution. It suggests clips or even magnets. Porsche could potentially offer both options as part of its kit if and when it offers a final product. Looking at the filing illustrations, the product looks pretty attractive with the analog dial and simple embellishments like the openings around the side button.

Now your old Porsche 911 can be upgraded up to modern standards.
Not Porsche’s First Classic Car Upgrade
Porsche is really getting into offering modern upgrades for its older cars. Arguably its most impressive upgrade came a few years ago with the launch of Porsche Classic Communication Management infotainment products. They are car stereo head units with fully functional Apple CarPlay, and they’re designed to look like original equipment for even air-cooled 911s. Porsche expanded the range in 2023 for mid-2000s models, even the original Cayenne.
Porsche is even going in the opposite direction by offering classic-style parts for newer models. It has a line of forged aluminum wheels for 996 911 and 986 Boxster and Cayman designed to look just like the Fuchs wheels of older air-cooled cars, and they’re made by the same Fuchs company. Porsche only lists 18-inch examples, but going to the Fuchs website, Fuchs also offers 17-inch and 19-inch sizes. And being wheels, as long as the bolt pattern matches and there’s room under the arches, the wheels can be fitted to other models. As for pricing, the Fuchs site lists the most affordable 17-inch wheel at $1,256.86 per wheel, and the largest 19-inch wheel is $2,181.22.
