Best AWD Coupes for 2025 | CarBuzz

[ad_1]

If you live in a cold-weather state that demands the security of an all-wheel-drive system but still like to commute in style, the AWD coupe is the ideal car. Unfortunately, we had to bid farewell to several brilliant AWD coupes recently. That group includes the Dodge Challenger, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, Audi TT, and Audi R8. There are still many all-wheel-drive coupes on sale for the 2025 model year, though, and we’ve ranked them here based on our proprietary BuzzScore, which takes into account performance, features, value, design, and more.

Vehicles are assigned a BuzzScore in relation to their direct segment competitors, and as such, vehicles in this list, while similarly scored, do not necessarily compete directly against one another. Find out more about how the BuzzScore ratings work here. These lists are continuously updated with the latest BuzzScores and vehicles as they become available.

2025 Porsche 911 Carrera

Base MSRP

$120,100

Base Trim Engine

3.0L Twin-Turbo 6-Cylinder Boxer

Base Trim Horsepower

388 hp

If money is no object, and you’re looking for one of the best AWD coupes, the Porsche 911 Carrera is hard to beat. Nothing on this list is even relatively affordable, so we’ll rip off that bandage right away by letting you know that the 911 Carrera starts at $120,100. If you want AWD, though, you have to spring for the Carrera 4 GTS, which starts at a much higher $172,700. This model has a 3.6-liter boxer-six engine, an electric turbo, and an electric motor that helps it unleash 532 hp and 449 lb-ft of torque combined. With the benefit of AWD traction, it sprints to 60 mph in only 2.9 seconds.

From the base RWD model all the way up to the mighty Turbo S, the 911 rewards drivers with impeccable handling, crisp transmissions, and enough practicality for everyday use. It’s a spectacular sports car.

At one extreme you can treat the 992 like a normal car and amble along at normal road speeds, riding the stout torque curve, or you can punch it for junior league supercar performance at the other. The 911 Carrera’s performance repertoire has never been broader.

BMW M4 Coupe

2025 BMW M4 Coupe

Engine

3.0L Twin-Turbo Inline-6 Gas

Horsepower

473 hp

Base MSRP

$79,100

BMW makes a stand with multiple AWD coupes on this list. The first of them is the BMW M4 Coupe. There are three versions of the M4: The standard M4 Coupe, the Competition Coupe, and the Competition xDrive Coupe. Their base prices are $79,700, $83,900, and $89,000, respectively. Each version gets the same 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine, but it’s tuned differently for each trim. The only AWD version, the Competition xDrive, has 523 horsepower and the same 479 lb-ft of torque. It hits 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, a significant 0.7 seconds quicker than the base M4.

If you can live with its brash styling, the M4 Coupe is a brilliant new chapter for BMW’s long history of sporty, six-cylinder coupes.

Those who look past the nose (which is functional for cooling, by the way) will get to enjoy one of the most complete sports coupes on the market today.

BMW 2 Series Coupe

2025 BMW 2 Series

2025 BMW 2 Series Coupe

Engine

2.0L I4 Turbo | 3.0L I6 Turbo

Horsepower

255 hp (2.0L) | 382 hp (3.0L)

Base MSRP

$39,600

The next AWD coupe from BMW is the 2 Series. You can choose between the 230i and 240i models, with either one having an option for rear or xDrive all-wheel drive. The xDrive version of the 230i starts at $41,600 while the AWD M240i starts at $52,600. Starting with the less expensive of the two, the 230i is powered by a 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder that makes 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It’s capable of hitting the 60 mph mark in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 155 miles per hour. The M240i xDrive, on the other hand, has a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder that makes 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. That means it can do the 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, but it’s still electronically limited to a top speed of 155 miles per hour.

Bentley Continental GT Speed

New Continental GT Speed - 1

We warned you that these wouldn’t be all that affordable. We did not say, however, that some of them would reach the $300,000 range. Here’s the latest Bentley Continental GT Speed. It’s a plug-in hybrid with huge power and abundant luxury. Under the hood is a 4.0-liter hybrid V8 (replacing the old 12-cylinder) that makes 771 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, which is even more power than the outgoing W12. Not only does it excel at being a grand tourer, but the latest Continental GT Speed’s performance will see it keep up with many high-octane sports cars.

We launched the Continental GT Speed to 60 in just 2.91 seconds, solidifying it as the second-quickest car we have tested this year to date. It gets off the line perfectly every time after dumping the clutch and pawing the pavement with all four wheels. You get an electric shove at the beginning, which seamlessly blends with the V8 acceleration. It feels like being catapulted off a cliff.

BMW M8 Coupe

2025 BMW M8 Coupe

Base MSRP

$138,800

Engine

4.4-Liter Twin-Turbo V8

Horsepower

617 hp

Unfortunately, the BMW M8 Coupe is no longer listed on BMW’s website, and the two-door coupe was officially discontinued in America. The brand is still offering a handful of 8 Series models; a regular 8 Series coupe, a Gran Coupe, and a Convertible, but if you want to get your hands on a new M8 coupe, you’ll have to be lucky that a dealer has any left. With that being said, the M8 Coupe was powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that made 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. It had a zero-to-sixty time of about 3.2 seconds and could reach a top speed of 155 mph, though that could be increased to 190 miles per hour with the M Driver’s Package.

6

Mercedes-AMG GT 55 Coupe

2024 Mercedes-AMG GT 55 Coupe

At the upper end of Mercedes-Benz’s coupe lineup, the Mercedes-AMG GT 55 Coupe starts at $137,550, which pits it against the Porsche 911 Carrera. Under the hood of this sleek machine is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. With all-wheel drive as standard, a nine-speed automatic transmission helps send the AMG GT 55 Coupe from zero to sixty miles per hour in 3.8 seconds. Although not as precise as the 911, the AMG’s V8 is more charismatic than the 911’s boxer-six, and many would argue that the Mercedes is a more dramatic-looking car. It now also has two tiny seats at the back, another element that brings it closer to the 911.

7

Mercedes-AMG CLE 53

The last Mercedes-Benz on this list is the AMG CLE 53. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder hybrid powertrain that makes an impressive 443 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. Connecting that power to all four wheels is a nine-speed automatic transmission. With that much power and plenty of grip on the road, the AMG CLE 55 can run the 0-60 sprint in four seconds. However, it’s still a comfortable cruiser, with all the gadgets expected of a modern Mercedes. And, with models like the C63 moving to four-cylinder power, it’s gratifying that you can still get a new AMG model with at least six cylinders.

Characteristics Of The Best AWD Coupes

There’s a wide variety of all-wheel-drive coupe models on sale in the US, but there are a few commonalities we can identify between them:

  • They are stylish, sleek, and sporty – but only have two doors
  • They are a riot to drive and boast superior handling
  • They have excellent grip levels
  • They have potent powertrains but can be heavy on fuel

What To Consider When Buying All-Wheel-Drive Coupes

There’s a lot to consider if you’re shopping for a two-door that sends its power to all four wheels, and while some sacrifices are made, it’s mostly good news:

Pros

  • Excellent traction in slippery conditions
  • Good performance and quick acceleration
  • Appealing looks
  • Wide range of brands

Cons

  • These cars can be very expensive
  • Inferior efficiency to FWD or RWD equivalents
  • Limited cargo and interior space
